Bionic reading: what changes on the page?

By Aura Reader Team · 2026-04-05 · 2 min read · Updated 2026-09-06

Bionic-style reading bolds the beginning of words while leaving the remaining letters lighter. The underlying article is unchanged; the emphasis is different. Some readers like the rhythm of that emphasis. Others find it makes the page busier.

Preference is not proof of faster reading

A page that looks easier to scan does not necessarily lead to better comprehension. We do not claim that this formatting trains your brain, treats attention difficulties or guarantees a speed increase. Compare it with ordinary text using material you actually want to read.

Start with simpler changes

If your goal is a comfortable page, first adjust the font size and theme. Try a short paragraph before adding another effect. Keep normal text as your reference: you should be able to return to it when extra emphasis becomes distracting.

Aura's reading-options guide describes the current controls. Choose the presentation that suits the article in front of you, rather than switching on every available tool.
