Dyslexia-friendly fonts: what to try in your reader

By Aura Reader Team · 2026-06-06 · 2 min read · Updated 2026-09-06

A font can feel comfortable to one reader and distracting to another. Aura includes OpenDyslexic as a choice, not a treatment or a promise of faster reading. Its distinctive letter shapes and heavier lower strokes give it a different appearance from a conventional serif or sans-serif font.

Compare a paragraph, not a font name

Open a familiar article and read a paragraph in your usual font. Switch to OpenDyslexic, adjust the size and read another paragraph. Notice whether you can follow the lines comfortably and whether you want to keep reading. There is no need to prefer a font because its name suggests it was made for you.

Change one setting at a time

If you change the font, size, theme and reading mode together, it is difficult to tell which change helped. Start with the text size, then compare typefaces. Keep the setup that feels easier to use. Reader preferences do not diagnose or treat dyslexia, and we do not claim that weighted letters prevent reversals or improve comprehension for everyone.
